Deformities of the Toes

Hammertoe, mallet toe are cross-over toe are terms used to describe an assortment of deformities of the toes. A frequently overlooked condition is called second toe instability, which produces fullness under the ball of the foot, associated with pain and a contracture of the second digit. Dr. Jolly was the first to report on the cause of this condition, at the annual meeting of The American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons in 1996 in New Orleans. Doctor Jolly wrote the chapter dealing with the surgical correction of this deformity, for a textbook called Master Techniques in Podiatric Foot and Ankle Surgery, edited by Dr. Thomas Chang, and published in 2005.

Deformities of the foot, fractures and dislocations, diabetic ulcers and other conditions associated with diabetes are conditions that are seen and treated on a daily basis at The Center. Because Dr. Jolly's practice is limited to surgery of the foot, routine nail care and paring of corns and calluses are not routinely performed here. Patients who are seen at The Center initially, for these types of services are generally referred to a podiatrist in their own communities for continuing care.
