The Center for Reconstructive Foot Surgery was founded in 1998, as a result of an obvious need for a comprehensive and integrated practice, which would be devoted to the reconstruction of all foot disorders. At that time in New England, there were many podiatrists who occasionally performed surgery, and many orthopedic surgeons who performed occasional foot and ankle operations, but no practice existed which was devoted solely to surgery of the foot. The Center's founder, Gary Peter Jolly, DPM FACFAS recognized the need for such a facility, and so the Center for Reconstructive Foot Surgery was born. The philosophy, which drives the Center and its staff, is that being a foot surgeon should be a full time job. Our doctors do not dabble in foot surgery. They are committed to it. Our surgeons stay abreast of advances in the specialty of foot and ankle surgery, and in fact, Dr. Jolly is a frequently published author of scientific papers and has contributed to several textbooks on foot and ankle surgery. As a result of his publications, Dr. Jolly has lectured extensively around the country, and is a highly sought after educator. In addition to providing the best care available, the Center for Reconstructive Foot Surgery is also a teaching facility where students, residents and surgical fellows come for training in reconstructive foot and ankle surgery. Dr Jolly is the site director for the Yale podiatric surgical residency and is a Clinical Professor of Surgery at two podiatric medical schools. Dr. Jolly is also the director of a post-residency fellowship in reconstructive and revisional surgery of the foot, based at New Britain General Hospital. In addition to his clinical and teaching activities, Jolly is active in the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons, a national specialty society of over 6,000 doctors. Dr. Jolly has served as president of that organization from 2004 to 2005, and he continues to provide leadership for foot and ankle surgeons through his continued activities as a teacher at courses and meetings sponsored by the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons.
